New plugins have been added to the GN4 suite of applications enabling users of Adobe’s InDesign and Photoshop applications to interact directly with the GN4 content management system. Also bundled with these plugins are two InDesign productivity tools, one for advanced ruling and another for sophisticated vertical justification and multi-column balancing.
The InDesign plugin lets users place GN4 content onto pages. The plugin provides a tabbed window into GN4, with each tab presenting specific functionality to the user. For example, one tab allows users to peruse pages in the GN4 editions database where pages, editions and zones can be navigated and opened. The plugin is actually two-way so pages that originated within InDesign can be injected into the GN4 editions database via the same plugin. The same can be done with articles and photos (when using the Photoshop plugin).
Other tabs allow users to browse folders, manage assigned content, edit individual article items or carry out searches of the GN4 content database. Users can interact with GN4’s workflows and can move articles to other destinations, start copyflows, assign content to pages and edit metadata properties, all from within the plugin.
The two InDesign Palettes that are bundled with the plugins are part of Miles 33’s PowerTools plugin. They provide important additional features to the InDesign user, simplifying their work on layouts:
Together, these two palettes free users from of the more mundane, time consuming, but aesthetically important, functions of page design.
The Photoshop plugin provides a means of adding new images to the GN4 database for use in the various media channels the publisher outputs to. This can be newspaper pages, websites, TV broadcasts, tablet devices etc.
For images already in the database, received from wire agencies or in-house photographers for example, the plugin allows search, retrieval and editing, without ever leaving the Photoshop application.
